The button above will take you to a chart that will show the side effects that Zoloft has on people and the Zoloft effect vs. the placebo effect. For those of you who do not know what a placebo is, it is essentially:
Something to note about a placebo is that when used in experiments the patients taking them do not know whether they are being given the actual medication or just a fake. These experiments are quite interesting because since the patients know these medications are all for the brain, it may just be the concept of something giving them relief that will actually allow the person to do it themselves.
In the case of this experiment the placebo was used to see how many people were psychologically convincing themselves that the side effects of Zoloft were occurring therefore making it seem as though they were being prescribed the actual medication.
- "A harmless pill, medicine, or procedure prescribed more for the psychological benefit to the patient than for any physiological effect."
- "A substance that has no therapeutic effect, and isused as a control in testing new drugs."
